THE SHOWThis Is Not Your Grandmother's Macbeth.
It is contemporary, it is physical, and it is raw. &Sons Theatre's first production is an exploration of human nature, the structure and effect of power, and how we choose who we are to each other. Using a variety of movement techniques developed by London-based companies, as well as cross-gender casting, Shakespeare's story of ambition and betrayal becomes more familiar to a modern audience. The body is the center of the work - what is happening in the limbs, as well as in the head and heart. The sound, the breath, the pleasure, the pain, the emotion, the effort. The characters of Macbeth feel so extremely - they cut their hearts out and show them to us. &Sons Theatre's ensemble's movement work gives a body to thought, to emotion, and to the unseen. &Sons Theatre's mission is to create insightful, intentional, uncompromising, unconventional theatre. We want to challenge audiences with unfamiliar theatre that includes them and invites them to be part of the conversation. This was &Sons Theatre's inaugural production.
In pursuit of theatre that is both accessible for everyone and sustainable for us, we used a More-If-You-Can/Less-If-You-Need ticketing model. A special ticket discount was offered for members of The Upstart Crows of Santa Fe. The roles of Fleance/Macduff Son were performed by Samuel Henzerling March 5 - 8. IN THE PRESS
