THE SHOW
Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, where YOU lay our scene!
Here's your chance to prove you're a better writer than the Bard. In this tongue-in-cheek (or should we say thumb-in-teeth), choose-your-own-story style virtual production, the audience votes to decide the protagonist of the story and their choices. With a combination of original text and quippy contemporary dialogue, a rotating cast, colorful artwork, timed voting, and a live chat, this production will be irreverent, engaging, and most importantly, FUN! The plot of each show will be determined by YOU, the audience, with at least fifteen different shows that you can build. If you choose, the plot can follow the original play, albeit with a contemporary, irreverent spin. However, you can also choose to create a different (or wildly different) story - Juliet can romance Rosaline instead, or they can decide that upon Romeo's exile to Mantua he instead retreats into Verona's sewers to become the King of Rats (in opposition to Tybalt's King of Cats)! The choices range from fun variations to absurd alternate realities. Lay Our Scene plays off the advantage that nearly everyone is familiar with what happens in Romeo and Juliet, and allows the audience to experience, in a very silly way, what might happen if different choices are made. &Sons Theatre's mission is to create insightful, intentional, uncompromising, unconventional theatre. We want to challenge audiences with unfamiliar theatre that includes them and invites them to be part of a conversation. This show was presented as part of the 2021 Santa Fe Summer Shakespeare Festival. Details about the festival can be found on their website: https://www.sfsummershakes.org/
In pursuit of theatre that is both accessible for everyone and sustainable for us, we are using a More-If-You-Can/Less-If-You-Need ticketing model. In recognition of the financial hardships that many of us are facing in the midst of COVID-19, we have significantly lowered our ticket prices.
